In the midst of the 2026 World Cup, Europeans and other foreign nationals made a rapturous discovery of ranch salad dressing.
Long popular in the United States thanks to its flavor and its versatility as a topping, the dressing is now enjoying a sudden upswing in popularity, along with some infamy.
Why? On account of the Transportation Security Agency having to make clear that it needs to be transported via checked baggage, not carry-on.
Will this dressingโs 15 minutes of fame translate into a sudden upswing in foreign production? Anythingโs possible, but as clichรฉ as it is to say, only time will tell.
But since youโre here reading this article, whether or not youโve seen the light courtesy of the worldโs most popular sport, weโre going to assume that youโre looking to either start or enhance production of ranch dressing.
This article will discuss a few considerations to keep in mind when filling ranch, along with the Accutek machines we recommend for filling ranch.
The Qualities of Liquid Ranch
If you already produce ranch dressing, then you already know: itโs thick stuff. Itโs got a high viscosity and a creamy texture, making it heavier and more difficult to move.
Depending on your ingredientsโwhether you have pepper, herbs, parsley, whateverโyou may have large particulates or chunks in the stuff, like from chives or onions.
Since ranch can be so thick, some machines, like gravity fillers or smaller pinch fillers, probably arenโt going to be able to squeeze the stuff out. Ranch is going to need something more robust and precise.
Piston Filling Machinery

The reason why piston fillers are the best type of filler for ranch dressingโfor any high-viscosity dressingโis that their positive displacement technology allows them to handle thicker products.
In modern packaging operations, piston fillers are used to:
- Accurately dose creams, gels, sauces, and pastes
- Handle large particulates or chunks
- Reduce overfill and improve product control
- Support sanitary production environments
- Scale from semi-automatic workstations to higher-speed automatic lines
Because the filling action is based on measured piston displacement, these machines are especially valuable when product consistency and fill-volume accuracy must remain stable across a wide range of viscosities.
Accutek offers several models of piston fillers, some designed to be incorporated into a full production line, others for standalone operations.
AVF Piston Fillers

Our Automatic Volumetric Filling machine, or the AVF, is a highly customizable and durable machine. It can be equipped with up to 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, or 12 nozzles.
How it works is that the AVF dispenses an accurately measured amount of your product into your containers. This reduces overfill and saves you money on both labor and spills. No ranch gone to waste!
Itโs versatile enough to fill thin products such as water or thick products like caulking compounds with little to no additional change parts.
The AVF comes in two variants: a pneumatic version and one using servo motors to power the pistons.
The servo variant, while complex, can provide smoother filling and may be easier to adjust, as it uses the touchscreen for most adjustments.
The AVFs can handle liquids with viscosities ranging from 1 to 20,000 centipoise (cP). Depending on the number of nozzles, they can handle up to 120 containers per minute (CPM).
SVF Piston Fillers
Our Semi-Automatic Volumetric Fillers (SVF) are piston-based filling machines that accurately deliver a measured volume of product to each container. Their accuracy ensures bottom-line savings by reducing the amount of product used as overfill.
The SVF can fill products with viscosities ranging from 1 to 20,000 cP, and has a production rate of up to 30 CPM. But like the AVF, the SVF can be equipped with a touchscreen for greater customizability and control.
Also, the SVF is usually only equipped with a single nozzle and is activated by pressing a foot pedal.
This makes it more ideal if youโve got a smaller ranch-filling operation going on.
The SVF can also potentially be equipped with a heated hopper, which can be paired with a mixer.
This liquifies and keeps thick product from separating, allowing the ranch to retain its consistency.
What separates the SVF from the AVF is that the SVF is meant to be a more standalone machine, owing to its smaller physical footprint and semi-automatic design.
Net Weight Fillers

Another type of machine you can use for filling containers with ranch is a net weight filler.
Net weight filling machines are designed to fill containers based on measured product weight rather than volume or time.
They use integrated scales or load cells to ensure each container receives the exact target weight, regardless of product density or flow variations.
These machines are ideal for bulk filling liquid or semi-liquid products into larger containers such as buckets and drums, where accuracy and product cost control are critical.
And because real-time weight measurement controls the filling process, these machines provide a higher level of accuracy than traditional volumetric systems in many applications.
AccuWeight Automatic Filling Machines
The AccuWeight is a net weight filler designed for precisely and accurately filling liquid or semi-liquid products into drum or bucket containers ranging from 0.5 to 6 gallons (1.89 โ 22.71 L) at a rate of 5 CPM.
This machineโs fully pneumatic operation helps to ensure smooth and efficient container-filling operations.
The AccuWeight is great if youโre planning on filling large quantities of ranch dressing for sale or distribution.
Options for Accutek Packaging Equipment Ranch Fillers
Filling ranch can be a messy task, considering just how thick the stuff is. Which is why youโll need machines with custom systems to help clean the insides of your machine(s) without having to do any disassembly.
Youโve probably heard of this kind of system before: itโs called clean-in-place, or CIP. This option helps to flush water and/or cleaning solutions through your machine to make sure it stays sanitary.
This means youโll need to install a trough beneath your machine that can be filled with this liquid.
Another optional system you can incorporate into your ranch filling line is a conveyor bath. T
his system lets you clean your conveyor by dipping the belt into a reservoir filled with water and/or cleaning solution.
It can come with air knives/jets that can block any remaining chunks of matter, forcing them to fall back into the bath, and blow away residual water.
This way, in case any ranch spills onto your conveyor during the filling process, you can clean it without having to lift a finger.
While cleanliness is king, getting the correct amount of product out the door is even more critical.
Which is why itโs important to have an inspection/rejection station installed in your production line.
An inspection/rejection station is a machine that can be programmed to recognize a correct product, one that has the right amount of ranch in a properly labeled container.
If it detects a passing container with, say, not enough ranch or a bad label, it can push it off to the side, removing it from the production process for disposal.
Note that some of these options may not be compatible with some Accutek machines.

Frequently Asked Questions
What fillers are best suited for ranch dressing?
Since ranch dressings are pretty thick, on account of having large particulates or chunks, we generally recommend piston fillers. These machines are designed to push out thick products and are well-suited for this kind of product.
Are these machines easy to clean?
These machines are generally easy to clean, yes. Some may require additional equipment for cleaning, like a clean-in-place system or a conveyor bath.
Is it better to have an automatic or semi-automatic filler for filling ranch dressing?
Thatโs going to depend on your production needs. Are you filling large quantities of ranch? Then you want to use an automatic filler and incorporate it into an automatic line.
If youโre only doing smaller or less-frequent fills, then a semi-automatic machine may be the better fit.
Does Accutek ship filling equipment internationally?
Yes, we do ship our machines outside of the US.
